Arnold was the oldest son of Edwin and Olga (Knoll) Kern in Frankenmuth.  He was raised on a farm next south of the farm I was raised on Frank Road.  He had three brothers, Carl, Clarence and Fred, and one sister, Lorine.

Obituary

Went to be with the Lord unexpectedly January 6, 2011 at the Covenant Medical Center, age 83 years. Arnold Michael Kern was born on May 28, 1927 in Frankenmuth, MI to the late Edwin and Olga (Knoll) Kern. He was married to Mildred Edna Zehnder on April 1, 1951, she survives him. Arnold was in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean war. He retired from Bavarian Builders and then worked part time at the Bavarian Inn Motor Lodge. Arnold was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church serving on the board of Elders and Trustees and a charter member of the Male Chorus. He was a past Commander of the American Legion, Post 150 and a member of the Korean Veterans, Chapter 251.

Surviving besides his wife Milly are; son Michael (Linda) Kern, Cat Springs, TX, 2 daughters Elizabeth Jack, Alpena and Nancy (Jeramy) Micinski, Frankenmuth, 5 grandchildren Jessie and Jason McNeel, Deacon, Simon and Hallie Jack, Grace and Seth Micinski, 2 great grandchildren Judah and Evie McNeel, sister Lorine (Leon) Nickodemus, and brother Fred (Judy) Kern, Frankenmuth.

Arnold was preceded in death by a daughter Susan and siblings Carl (Gladys) and Clarence Kern.

Funeral services will take place at 10:15 A.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 A.M. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark D. Brandt will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Cemetery. Arnolds’ family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 2-8 P.M. and on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Music Fund, St. Lorenz Christ Care Groups, St. Lorenz Student Aid Fund.
